about
We are Unidos Together, a language/cultural exchange program between Spanish-speaking children in the US and in Hispanic countries. Unidos Together strives to promote cultural awareness and appreciation for Spanish heritage and language as well as instilling collaboration and technological skills in children.
Our program began in the summer of 2019, when we connected Spanish-speaking elementary school kids at our local Boys and Girls Club in San Juan Capistrano, California and the children at the Boys and Girls club in Rosarito Beach, Mexico. We connected the kids through Skype and gave them a variety of bilingual games and puzzles to solve together during the camp.
In November 2019, we travelled to Rosarito, Mexico to meet the children that we worked with. We spent time playing games with the kids and getting familiar with their environment. We were honestly overwhelmed with admiration of these children and their sunny outlook. Even with limited resources and a small space, the children were so happy to be there and excited to share their special place with us. We have continued to work with this club, and we are currently developing an online dance camp, to foster performance skills while also providing a fun way to continue learning and interaction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
